South Africa: NW govt to enforce 70% procurement spend on township entrepreneurs

10 March, 2017: In a bold move to boost small businesses in the townships and villages, the North West government has announced plans to make public and private businesses spend 70% of their procurement budgets on township entrepreneurs. Delivering his State of the Province Address recently, North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo revealed that his administration plans to table the Village, Township, Small Dorpies (VTSD) Preferential Procurement Bill that will essentially force companies to spend the bulk of their budgets sourcing services from VTSD suppliers.
