Australia: Govt weighs new green procurement targets

31 Jul 19: The federal government is planning new green procurement targets for all levels of government to boost the circular economy. The proposed shake-up, which would require local and state governments to purchase a portion of recycled materials in public works, has been welcomed by councils and the waste management sector. Assistant Waste Reduction Minister Trevor Evans told Government News that the federal government will consult with state and territory ministers later this year at the Ninth Meeting of Environment Ministers to set a new procurement target.
